Hughes Consulting Services, LLC was formed in 2007 after a family friend asked Mike to perform some accounting functions and business plans for a couple of his businesses. Since then, the business has grown steadily over the years that followed, largely through word-of-mouth referrals. The goal is to continue to grow the business by providing clients with excellent service at competitive rates.
Mike leads the charge at Hughes Consulting Services and has been in the tax, accounting and consulting industry for more than 20 years.
He completed his traineeship at PricewaterhouseCoopers as a Senior Consultant specializing in Internal Auditing. Thereafter he worked as the CFO of the Special Investigating Unit, an anti-corruption body, established in South Africa.
After moving to the States with Debbie and their daughter in 2005, Mike obtained his Enrolled Agent certification from the IRS. An Enrolled Agent does not work for the IRS, but rather for you, the client, in the same way that a CPA or attorney would handle all your tax needs.
Per the IRS, “An Enrolled Agent is a person who has earned the privilege of representing taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service by either passing a three-part comprehensive IRS test covering individual and business tax returns, or through experience as a former IRS employee. Enrolled agent status is the highest credential the IRS awards. Individuals who obtain this elite status must adhere to ethical standards and complete 72 hours of continuing education courses every three years.
Enrolled Agents, like attorneys and certified public accountants (CPAs), have unlimited practice rights. This means they are unrestricted as to which taxpayers they can represent, what types of tax matters they can handle, and which IRS offices they can represent clients before.”
Mike is also an Advanced Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor and enjoys assisting clients with their QuickBooks software including accounting, installation, training, and support.
Outside of the office, Mike enjoys surfski (high-performance kayak) paddling and fly fishing.
Debbie manages the bookkeeping and payroll services for our clients and has been in the accounting/bookkeeping industry for more than 20 years.
She also completed her traineeship at PricewaterhouseCoopers as a Senior Auditor specializing in External Auditing. Thereafter, she was the CFO for her family-owned business where she gained invaluable experience in managing small to medium-sized businesses.
After moving to the States with Mike and their daughter in 2005, Debbie worked as a Controller for a fast-growing, medium-sized company.
Hughes Consulting Services was blessed to enjoy rapid growth too and Debbie was able to leave her then corporate position and join Mike to realize their dream of working together.
Debbie also offers Notary Public Services.
When she is not in the office or being a soccer Mom, Debbie enjoys reading and long walks on the beach.
